Should You Hire a Photo + Video Team for Your Elopement?

👈🏼 That’s us right there in front of the camera for once, the tall dude is our videographer. We hired a husband-wife / photo+video duo for our own adventure wedding week in Hawaii. One might say that we are biased to the question “should you hire a photo-video combo team?” but there’s a reason why, after 100s of weddings under our belt, we decided to do it this way ourselves. Here are our top 3 reasons to hire a duo team!

  1. The Feeling / Flow of the Day

We are very much on the introverted side. We feel more comfortable in smaller groups in general but especially when in a social setting. Needless to say we were more down for the idea of having a smaller two person team following us around, rather than a team of three or four. In larger more traditional weddings there is often two photographers and two videographers, and with so many things going on in a large wedding it totally makes sense to have that support and the ability to split up for certain things, but when it comes to an intimate wedding, or even more so an elopement where it’s just the couple, we’ve found that a team of two feels just right.

2. Vendor Chemistry 😋

Just like in any relationships, you need chemistry, communication, compatibility, and respect. Believe it or not, this applies to your media team as well! In a perfect world, everyone would get along, no one would step on anyone’s toes, or allow pride, ignorance, or a competitive nature to take over, but the reality is it happens sometimes. We’ve seen or heard about it countless times in the industry. The benefit of working with one team is that they work together all the time and have their mutual flow all figured out, this directly impacts your experience. If the creative styles are are too different (think shooting at very different focal lengths or directing shots in different ways) it can actually affect the quality of the end product. When we work together we make sure that each shot is working for both photo & video!

no need to worry about vendor chemistry with us hehe!

3. Convenience & Value

It actually saves a lot of time when you only need to communicate with one team, one contract, one everything throughout the planning process. Often you are also saving a little bit of money as well when compared to hiring two separate companies, each at their own individual full rates. As a husband-wife team we’re able to share a lot of our expenses like travel, food, hotel, car rental, etc. and we’re able to pass some of those savings to our couples.
